Tips for Selling Your Home in Vermont

You want to sure your home is in tip-top shape when you put it on the market. Here are a few helpful hints to get you ready to sell your home.

  1. Curb Appeal
Stand at the curb and look at your home. Is it attractive and well kept? Is the landscaping neat and groomed? Is the front door welcoming? Some simple flowers can really brighten up the exterior of the home. New paint can change a dreary door to a focal point.
  2. First Impression
Walk in your front door. What do you see? Clutter near the entrance? What do you smell? Dirty sneakers, pet smells, strong cooking spices, etc? Are the carpets clean and smelling fresh? Are the corners free of cob webs and dead insects? The first impression can make or break a buyer’s interest in your home.
  3. Color Palette
Is your home a neutral color palette, or does it reflect your favorite bright colors? You don’t want buyers to question whether their personal items can be showcased within your choices of colors.
  4. Depersonalize
Have you depersonalized your home? Is it full of family pictures, your children’s artwork and/or your favorite collectibles? A little here and there is fine, but you don’t want to overwhelm the buyers with your “stuff”. You want buyers to be able to picture themselves in your home.
  5. Clean and Tidy
Cleanliness is next to godliness! Look at your windows, closets, kitchen drawers, attic, garage, etc. Are all of these ideas clean and tidy? Pack up the things you do not need and store them away or rent a storage locker. You will need to pack everything to move, so consider this a good starting point!
